Ford Falcon XR6 Sprint, XR8 Sprint: RWD sedan’s last hurrah

For the Ford Falcon’s slow walk into the sunset, Ford will release limited edition turbocharged XR6 Sprint and supercharged XR8 Sprint models in 2016.

The worst kept secrets in Australian motoring will be an automatic only a turbocharged 4-liter straight-six (XR6 Sprint), and a supercharged V8 (XR8 Sprint) with either manual or automatic.

Both cars will largely carry over engineering from former FPV (Ford Performance Vehicle) models, and help the Falcon bow out in a blaze of tire smoke and fury.

The XR Sprint models will feature more power, better brakes, unique wheels and stripes, build plate badges on the engine, badges on the fenders and trunk lid, and unique interior with Sprint embroidery.

The Ford Falcon sedan and ute will go out of production in 2016, and thus end Ford’s manufacturing operations in Australia.
