Ford Falcon ute production has ended: RIP July 29, 2016

Production of the Ford Falcon ute, a 2-seat pickup based on the Falcon sedan, ceased this week in Australia, with local manufacturing to cease in October.

The last Ford Falcon ute came down the line on July 29, 2016, bringing to a close a 54 year history. Around 479,000 Falcon sedan based 2-door utes have been built by Ford since 1961.

The final utes to roll out of Ford’s plant in Broadmeadows were a white XR6 and a gray XR6 Turbo. The final two utes will be used by Ford for internal celebrations and then loaned out to museums and other events.

The end of Falcon ute production is just another step towards the end of local manufacturing for Ford Australia, with the final Falcon sedans and Territory SUVs due to leave the factory on October 7, 2016.
