Dodge Grand Caravan lives until 2019, Chrysler Pacifica SUV axed

The Dodge Grand Caravan will reportedly live on until 2019, while the planned crossover SUV based on the new Chrysler Pacifica minivan has been axed.

Joe McCabe, president and CEO of AutoForecast Solutions, told the Windsor Star that he has information that Fiat Chrysler will continue making the Dodge Grand Caravan until 2019.

Both the older Dodge Grand Caravan and the just introduced Chrysler Pacifica are built at FCA’s plant in Windsor, Canada.

In Canada, the Dodge Grand Caravan and the now discontinued Chrysler Town & Country had a 70 percent share of the minivan market, with the Dodge version outselling the Chrysler five to one. With tooling and engineering already amortized on the Caravan, it makes sense to keep selling it as a low-cost alternative to the new Pacifica and other competitors.

AutoForecast also believes that plans for a Chrysler crossover SUV based on the Pacifica have also been shelved.
