Chevrolet Trax coming to the US to eat Buick Encore’s lunch

With the Buick Encore being an unqualified and (somewhat) surprise success, GM has decided to bring the Chevrolet version, the Trax, to the USA.

Essentially a Buick Encore/Opel Mokka with a harder edged body, the Chevrolet Trax shouldn’t differ too much in terms of its driving experience. Inside the Chevrolet features a slightly different dash design with a more entry-level ambience and plenty of silver plastic, although it does seem to do without the Buick Encore’s fake wood.

Like the Buick Encore, the US-bound Chevrolet Trax will be powered by a turbocharged 1.4-litre gas engine churning out 102kW (138hp) of power and 200Nm (148 lb-ft) of torque. A 6-speed auto is standard, but all-wheel drive will be an option.

Tech available will include 4G LTE internet connectivity, Wi-Fi hotspot functionality, 7-inch touchscreen, smartphone app connectivity, rear parking sensors, satellite radio and faux leather seats. 10 airbags, push button start, proximity entry key, electric power steering,

Whether this move proves to be stroke of genius in mining a successful niche market or a move back to the bad of days of GM where every brand had copycat models at 10 paces remains to be seen.
