Cadillac STS: What does its name mean?

The Cadillac STS was a part of the brand’s multi-billion dollar push upmarket, out of retirement homes, and into the consideration of import luxury buyers, but what does it name mean?

The rear-wheel drive STS replaced the front-wheel drive Seville, and was part of Cadillac’s push to be more European. As such it also adopted a three letter alphabetic name to mirror that of the smaller CTS, with which it shared a platform, and V6 and V8 engines.

Given its position as a replace for the Seville, the STS name is understood to stand for Seville Touring Sedan.
