AMG Sport line to be rebranded as Mercedes-AMG models

Mercedes-Benz will consolidate the naming of its AMG models, with the AMG Sport line to disappear completely within a short space of time.

A few years back, Mercedes-Benz decided to grow AMG and introduce more affordable AMG models to its range. These would feature less powerful engines, fewer modifications, be cheaper, and would be branded as the AMG Sport line.

So far Mercedes has released the GLE450 AMG Sport and C450 AMG Sport.

Unlike traditional AMG models, the engines in these new AMG Sport models wouldn’t be built and signed off by one person.

Mercedes-Benz has decided that the two-tiered AMG range will continue, but that the branding will change. Instead of being branded as AMG Sport models, these lower priced, less exclusive AMG cars will be given the full Mercedes-AMG badging.

This actually began with the release of the SLC43 AMG a few weeks back, which powered by a turbocharged V6 made by more than one person.
