Volkswagen: GTX name to be the GTI equivalent for electric cars

Volkswagen will reportedly use the GTX badge for hot variants of its new electric car range, including the production version of the ID Crozz or ID.5.

According to Autocar, Volkswagen has already trademarked the name, and will use it alongside its other hot badges: GTI for gas engine cars, GTD for diesel, and GTE for plug-in hybrids.

The X reportedly stands for all wheel drive, meaning these electric GT models will have a twin motor setup. Like the GTI, GTE and GTD, the GTX models will have styling, suspension and handling changes to make it look and feel more sporty.

There could be a GTX version of the ID.3 hatch, as the most powerful version right now only uses one motor to power the rear wheels.
