2022 Mitsubishi Outlander previewed by Engelberg plug-in hybrid concept

With boxy styling, bluff face, disguised headlamps, and floating roof, the Engelberg concept is distinctive, and it previews the next generation Outlander.

The concept’s plug-in hybrid powertrain also previews the top spec offering on the next Outlander.

The concept has a larger 2.4L I4 (today’s Outlander PHEV has a 2L I4) paired up with an electric motor for the front and rear axles for AWD.

There’s also active yaw control splitting the torque between the front wheels, and Super All-Wheel Control, which can brake individual wheels to do a similar thing.

With an improved battery, the Engelberg has an EV range of 70km (43mi), and total WLTP range over 700km (434mi).
