2021 Volkswagen Multivan: T7 has a new style and new platform

The new Volkswagen Multivan moves to the MQB platform, and has sleeker styling with a dash of SUV thrown in.

The new Multivan (which replaces the Caravelle name in the UK) is also no longer based on the Transporter van. The T6 Transporter will keep calm and carry on until it’s replaced by a model based on the Ford Transit.

There are two lengths available: 4,973mm (195.8-in) with a 3,124mm (123-in) wheelbase, and 5,173mm (203.7-in). All Multivans are 1941mm wide, and up to 1903mm tall. There’s a maximum of 7 seats.

A 10.25-in digital instrumentation screen, and 10-in infotainment touchscreen are available, as are swiveling captain’s chairs in the second row and a sliding (and removable) table for conference seating.

For the first time there’s a plug-in hybrid powertrain: a 1.4L turbo I4 with a 13kWh battery.

There’s also 100kW (134hp) 1.5L turbo I4, a 150kW (201hp) 2L turbo I4, and a 110kW (148hp) 2L turbo-diesel I4.
