2021 Nissan Frontier will have updated platform, not the NP300 Navara’s

The next generation Nissan Frontier, scheduled to be a 2021 model year car, will be based on an updated version of today’s F-Alpha platform.

According to Automotive News, the overdue Frontier redesign will stick with the F-Alpha platform because the Navara is smaller and uses a more sophisticated (and expensive) coil spring rear suspension.

Nissan thinks it’s too expensive to make the Navara platform larger to suit US tastes, so it will update the F-Alpha platform instead.

The new Frontier will gain a new body, and a new 300hp (224kW) V6 replacing the existing 4L V6.

The new Frontier could debut as early as September 2020.
