2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA: Baby SUV grows up, sheds hatchback design

Mercedes-Benz has turned the second generation GLA into a proper SUV with improved cabin space, more technology, and a more luxurious interior.

The roof has been raised by 104mm (4.1″), and the width and wheelbase have grown by 30mm (1.2″) so there’s more space for the 5 passengers inside.

It borrows the dashboard and most of the interior from the larger GLB, and has the MBUX infotainment system and other advanced features from the A/B/CLA/GLB ranges, including active distance control, active steering assistance, lane keeping assist, and blind spot monitoring.

The most powerful powertrain in the range (for now) is the AMG GLA35, which as a 2L turbo I4 with 225kW (306hp) at 5,800rpm, and 400Nm (295 lb-ft) between 3,000 and 4,000rpm.
