2021 Lexus IS vs 2013-2020: Facelift differences and changes compared

The 2021 Lexus IS looks very new, but is actually a reskin of a 7 year old car. See what’s changed in this side by side comparison.

2016-2020
At first look, the Lexus IS seems all new. Every exterior panel is new, but the 2021 IS is just a reskin of the third generation car which debuted in 2013.

The spindle grille has grown, but its design is better integrated and looks good. The odd split headlight designs of the 2013 and 2016 facelift have been replaced by a single unit with an integrated driving light swoosh.

2016-2020
The 2021 IS has smoother contours and simplified details. The rear door windows have grown to reduce the C pillar blindspot.

The most controversial part of the new IS is the Bangle butt trunklid.

The interior is where its most obvious the IS is a heavy facelift and not a new car. There's a larger infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support rising out of the dashboard, which now has round vents on the sides. The silver plastic has been replaced by black plastic or leather parts. The rest of the dashboard, instruments and controls are basically the same, and they look dated.

The seats are also carried over, as are the turbo I4, V6 and hybrid I4 engines.
