2021 Kia K5 vs Hyundai Sonata: Siblings differences & changes compared

The Kia K5 replaces the Optima, and although it looks completely different it again it shares a lot with the Hyundai Sonata.

In the US the Sonata's engines are: 2.5L I4 with 142kW (191hp) and 245Nm (181 lb-ft), a 1.6L turbo I4 with 134kW (180hp) and 264Nm (195 lb-ft), and a 2L I4 hybrid with 143kW (192hp).

For the US, the K5 is going for a sportier image. It will only be available with turbo engines: the 134kW (180hp) 1.6L I4 from the Sonata, and a more powerful 2.5L turbo I4 with 216kW (290hp) and 422Nm (311 lb-ft).

The dashboard and interior, like the exterior, has the same bones but different styling. Again the K5 is sportier, and the Sonata more restrained. Note the Kia has a traditional gear shifter, and the Hyundai has a controller dial for the automatic transmission.
