2021 Hyundai Ioniq 5: Retro Pony design has modern EV platform

The new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the first EV from Hyundai/Kia on the new e-GMP electric platform, and styling inspired by the 1970s Pony.

The Pony was Hyundai’s first car to use its own design.

There are two batteries available: standard range (58kWh) and long range (77.4kWh for North America and 72.6kWh for the rest of the world).

The choice of battery dictates the RWD and AWD powertrains available.

With the standard range battery, the RWD model has 125kW (168hp), 350Nm (258 lb-ft), and 0-100km/h in 8.5s. The AWD version has 173kW (232hp), 605Nm (446 lb-ft), and 0-100km/h in 6.1s

The long range battery has more powerful drivetrains. The RWD version has 160kW (215hp), 350Nm (258 lb-ft), and 0-100km/h in 7.4s.

The range topping AWD long range model has 2 electric motors with 225kW (302hp) and 605Nm (446 lb-ft), and 0-100km/h in 5.2s.

The Ioniq 5 supports both 400V and 800V fast charging.
