CupraFormentor

2021 Cupra Formentor: First unique model is a turbo (or PHEV) SUV

Now a standalone performance brand, Cupra has launched its first model not shared with Seat, but it’s not a sexy 2-door coupe or convertible, it’s an SUV.

Blame that on everyone buying SUVs, and coupes and convertibles being almost impossible to sell.

The Formentor has a 2L turbo I4 228kW (306hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft), a DSG transmission, and AWD.

There’s also a 1.4L plug-in hybrid version with 180kW (241hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft). The Formentor’s 13kWh lithium-ion battery means it can drive 50km (31mi) in electric only mode.

Standard features for the Formentor include 19″ wheels (optionally available in copper), 18″ Brembo brakes, and a 12″ infotainment screen with wired Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay.

The Formentor goes on sale in Europe during the final quarter of 2020.
