2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350de: Plug-in hybrid SUV with a diesel engine

With plug-in hybrids slowly replacing diesels in Europe, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350de goes for maximum range with a diesel in a plug-in hybrid.


The Mercedes-Benz GLE350de 4Matic has a 2L turbo-diesel I4 with 143kW (194hp) and 400Nm (295 lb-ft), and an electric motor with 100kW (134hp) and 440Nm (325 lb-ft).

Total system output is 235kW (320hp) and 700Nm (516 lb-ft). Its 0-100km/h time is 6.8s, top speed is 210km/h (130mph) or 160km/h (99mph) in pure electric mode.

The GLE350de has a 31.2kWh battery sitting above a modified rear axle for a step free trunk area, and a 90km (56mi) pure electric driving range.
