Once again the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra are clearly closely related, but GM has worked hard to make the two trucks more distinct from each other.

Look closely and you can see that every exterior panel, except for the roof, is unique to each truck.

Although the Silverado is the bigger seller, it's the Chevrolet that has the more avant garde looks, especially at the front with the headlights and grille split into three parts. With C-shaped headlamps and large chrome grille, the Sierra is conservative in comparison.

Under the bonnet, the Chevrolet Silverado is available with a 2.7L turbo I4, 3L I6 turbo-diesel, 4.3L V6, 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8. The GMC Sierra is available with the 3L I6 turbo-diesel, 5.3L V8 and 6.2L V8.

Despite being roughly the same shape, the Silverado's wheel arches have rounder edges and miss out plastic protectors. The Chevy also has a flowing character line above the front wheel arch which sweeps down and into the front door. The Sierra instead has a squarer fender treatment with a fake vent.

Thanks to the shadows and lighting in these photos, we can see the subtle differences in the side treatment with both trucks. The GMC Sierra has a subtle shoulder line, while the Chevrolet Silverado has a sharp crease, which can make quite a heavy shadow.

Again the Sierra has a squarer look to it, mainly thanks to the cut of the wheel arches.

Like the headlights, the GMC is conventional, while the Chevy is a little more out there.

One of the unique features of the Sierra is its Multi-Pro Tailgate, which has an inner section that opens separately to the outer part. This inner section can function as a load stopper, step, or work area.

Another Sierra exclusive is the available carbonfibre pickup bed.

While GM has gone to quite some lengths to differentiate the two trucks via their specifications and exterior design, the Sierra and Silverado have almost identical interiors.

The majority of the differences come down to trim and specifications. The biggest differences are the steering wheels, and the square instrument design for the GMC.
