2015 Toyota Corolla vs 1998: Crash test video shows safety improvements

How much safer is a new car compared to a used car from before 2000. The answer is lot, as this video from Australia shows.

This year ANCAP, Australia’s car safety testing authority, crashed a 2015 11th generation (E170) Corolla/Auris/Corolla iM hatch into a 1998 seventh generation (E100) Corolla hatch.

Both cars were traveling at 64km/h (40mph), and the overlap test shows just have far safety technology and design has improved in the 17 years between the two cars.

In the E170 Corolla, the cabin stays whole, while in the E100 Corolla the engine area is pushed back all the way and the cabin has deformed. The driver probably didn’t survive the accident.
