Toyota Avensis may not have replacement, replaced by SUVs

With buyers preferring SUVs and entry level luxury cars to large D segment family sedans in Europe, Toyota may not replace the Avensis with a similar car.

Johan van Zyl, Toyota Europe’s CEO, told Auto Express that the car’s future is “under discussion”.

“We are looking at that segment of the market and asking ourselves some questions. We’re very satisfied with the performance of Avensis now – the product is doing fine for us. But we’re asking if the next step should be another D-segment saloon or something else,” van Zyl said.

The current third generation Toyota Avensis was launched in 2009, and was given a facelift in 2012, and again 2015.
