Lincoln Navigator, Ford Expedition: likely switch aluminium for 2016

Automotive News is reporting that the next generation Lincoln Navigator will arrive in the second half of 2016 as a 2017 model year car.

Given that the current Navigator (above) is a gussied up Ford Expedition (below), and both cars are based on the Ford F-150 pickup, it stands to reason that the next generation versions of both vehicles will feature a frame and body constructed out of lightweight, but more expensive, aluminium.

For the Navigator and Expedition’s latest update, both vehicles received refreshed front and rear end designs, as well updated tech for the interior. Both SUVs also junked the 231kW/495Nm 5.4-litre V8 in favour of a 3.5-litre twin-turbo EcoBoost-branded V6 motor generating 276kW (370hp) of power and 583Nm (430lb-ft) of torque.
