2020 Ford Fusion & Mondeo: New models canceled for US and EU

The next generation Ford Fusion (US) and Mondeo (EU) models have reportedly been canceled with a new generation model only to be built in China, but not exported to the US or EU.

The Detroit News has a seen a memo sent by Ford to its suppliers in November informing them that the new 2020 Ford Fusion (CD542N) is being canceled. The stop order relates to both the Mexico built Fusion sedan, and the Spain built Mondeo hatch and wagon.

Ford will continue to design a new Fusion for China. Ford has already stated this Chinese Fusion will not be exported to the US or Europe.

The next generation Focus compact will be built in China, and exported to the US.

It’s possible the Fusion and Mondeo will live on beyond 2020 in the US and EU as facelifted models. Or they could be discontinued.

Mike Levine, a Ford spokesman, said, “Fusion remains an important part of the Ford lineup for years to come with even more new fresh features on the way. We will have more news to share in the future.”
