2018 Audi Q5 vs 2009-2017: 2nd vs 1st generation differences compared

See the changes between the first- and second-generation Audi Q5 crossovers in this side-by-side photo comparison.

2nd gen
1st gen F/L
The second-generation Q5 rides on the Volkswagen Group's lighter and more flexible MLB Evo component set. Both cars have seating for five, and a longitudinal engine with either front- or all-wheel drive.
2nd gen
1st gen F/L
Despite being new, the second-generation Q5 is clearly evolved stylistically from the first-generation SUV. While the first-generation Q5 was in Germany for most global markets, the new car will be primarily produced at a new factory in Mexico.
2nd gen
1st gen F/L
The new Q5 has sharper lines and detailing than the first generation car, but retains the clamshell tailgate design from the original crossover.
2nd gen
1st gen F/L
As is normal with Audi vehicles, both cars have high quality interiors. The new Q5, understandably, has a more modern design with a floating tablet-style infotainment screen.
