XW55 Toyota Prius Prime delayed in Japan until winter 2016

The launch of the new Toyota Prius Prime plug in hybrid in Japan has been delayed from the fall of 2016 to winter. No reason has been given for the change.

There is apparently no change as yet to the late fall launch planned for the Toyota Prius Prime in North America and Europe.

The Prius Prime has a redesigned and easier on the eye design for its front and rear ends, with different lights, grilles, bumpers and tailgate.

The drivetrain is essentially the same with a 1.8-liter Atkinson Cycle 4-cylinder engine hooked up to multiple electric motors. The main point of difference is the Prime’s larger 8.8kWh lithium ion battery

The Prime is capable of 22mi (35km) of pure EV driving at speeds up 84mph (135km/h).
