Toyota Avensis axed in the UK, Europe likely to follow, as sales collapse

The made in UK Toyota Avensis looks as though it be dropped from Toyota’s European range, with the car already being phased out from company’s UK range.

Toyota UK has told Autocar the Avensis has been dropped from the UK lineup, and it is “phasing out options for speccing new Avensis models”.

Just 3473 Avensis sedans and wagons were sold in the UK in 2017, down from 1660 in 2016.

In Europe, 25,319 Avensis models were sold in 2017, around half the number of Ford Mondeo models sold.

Toyota Europe told Autocar, “We are monitoring the D-segment as it declines and suffers from heavy discounting.”

The Avensis is currently made in the UK at the company’s Burnaston factory. When Avensis production stops, the Burnaston factory’s only product will be the Auris hatch (sold as the Corolla in the US) and wagon.
