Buick Envision price will jump by $8,000 due to Trump’s China tariffs

The Trump administration will begin 25% tariffs on about US$34 billion worth of Chinese goods from from July 6, 2018, and includes Chinese cars.


According to Bloomberg, the new automotive tariff will add US$8,000 to the price of the Envision, if Buick decides to pass on the full cost.

The base FWD Envision is priced at US$32,990.

The Envision is the most popular model imported into the US from China. In 2017 Buick sold 41,040 Envision SUVs in the US.

The Envision has two D2XX platform siblings: the Chevrolet Equinox (290,458) and GMC Terrain (85,441). For North America, the Equinox is made in Mexico and Canada, and the Terrain is made solely in Mexico.

Last year, the US imported 58,437 cars from China last year out of a total of 8.27 million imports. The total new car market was 17.2 million cars in 2017.

Ford plans to import the next generation Focus Active crossover hatch from China into the US.
