Aluminium Ford F-150 begins production at River Rouge

Ford has begun production of its all-new, aluminium body F-150 pickup truck at its factory in River Rouge.

The car will go on sale from December 2014 and will be available in 90 markets by 2015 when the Kansas City plant also begins production of the new F-150.

According to Ford, the new F-150’s aluminium body will not only make it lighter and more fuel efficient, but the new truck can also tow 1,100 pounds (500kg) more and haul 530lb (240kg) more than the previous generation version.

On top of that, the new aluminium alloy body won’t rust when its scratched or punctured.

With its status as the number selling vehicle in the USA for the past 37 years, Ford will be hoping that the new body material won’t scare potential buyers off.
