2020 Aston Martin Varekai to be its first SUV, based on DBX concept?

The Aston Martin Varekai name has been registered, and it could be used for the company’s first SUV, which will be built in Wales and based on the DBX concept.

The trademark filing has been discovered by Autocar, and the new name, if used, will fit into the company’s naming scheme, which features only models beginning with the letter V (Vantage, Vanquish, Valkyrie) outside of the DB range.

Based on the bonded and riveted platform for the DB11, the new Varekai will have either a Mercedes-AMG V8 engine or Aston Martin’s own V12.

The DBX concept was shown in 2015. Although that car was a 2-door SUV, the production model will have the traditional 4-door layout.

Production of the SUV will take place at a new factory in St Athan, Wales.
