2018 Audi RS5: Goodbye 4.2L V8, hello Porsche 2.9L twin turbo V6

Lighter, longer, wider and more aggressive, the new Audi RS5 ditches the 4.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 for a Porsche designed 2.9-liter twin turbo V6.

The new Audi RS5 has a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6 from the Porsche Panamera with 331kW (450hp), and 600Nm (443 lb-ft) from 1,900 to 5,000rpm. A 40:60 rear biased AWD system and 8-speed automatic is standard.

The RS5 has a 0-100km/h time of 3.9s, and the optional Dynamic Package the top speed is 280km/h (174mph).

15mm wider front and rear fenders, 19-inch wheels, and five link front and rear suspension are standard. Options include 20-inch wheels, matrix LED headlamps, RS suspension with dynamic ride control, and diamond stitched Nappa leather.

A carbonfiber roof is optional, but the standard car weighs 1,655kg (3,649 lb) or 60kg (132 lb) less than the old model.

The new Audi RS5 goes on sale in Germany and Europe from June 2017 with prices starting from €80,900 (US$87,400). US sales start later this year as a 2018 model with prices around US$70,000.
